30 Listening Part B Practice Questions with Answers | OET

OET Listening Part B tests how well you understand short workplace recordings from a healthcare setting, such as team briefings, handovers and conversations between colleagues. Each recording comes with one multiple-choice question that checks whether you have understood the speaker's main point, opinion or decision. This post gives you 30 OET Listening Part B practice questions with answers. Listen to each recording, choose A, B or C, then open the answer to check your choice. You can also open the transcript to read what was said. In the real test you hear each recording once only, so try to answer before you replay it.

Question 1

You hear a mailroom worker giving clinic staff instructions about internal parcel deliveries.

Where should clinic staff collect their parcel deliveries during the repairs?

A) outside the main lobby doors

B) from the usual reception desk

C) from the records office near the staff entrance

Show answer

Answer: C) from the records office near the staff entrance

Show transcript

Just a quick update about internal parcels while the main lobby is being repaired. From tomorrow, the delivery trolley will not come to the usual reception desk because the entrance there will be closed. Please do not ask the driver to leave parcels outside the lobby doors, even if someone is waiting to collect them. Instead, all clinic deliveries will be taken to the small records office beside the staff entrance on the ground floor. The receptionist there will sign for them and phone your department. You can then send one person down with their staff badge. Letters in the internal mail trays are not affected, so please continue using those as normal.

Question 2

You hear a community coordinator reminding a colleague about returning key sets after home visits.

What is the nurse required to do at the end of a normal working day?

A) leave the key set with reception staff

B) keep the key set for an early visit the next morning

C) return the key set and record it in the register

Show answer

Answer: C) return the key set and record it in the register

Show transcript

Community Coordinator: Before you head out, a quick reminder about the new key-return process. When you finish your last home visit, bring the key set back to the community office and sign it into the register before you leave for the day. Please don't keep it overnight, even if you're scheduled near the same address tomorrow morning. Community Nurse: I used to hand mine to reception. Is that still all right? Community Coordinator: No, the set needs to go directly into the secure cabinet after you've signed it back in. Reception can show you where the register is, but they shouldn't hold the keys. The only exception is if an urgent visit keeps you out until after the office closes. In that case, use the designated locked return box and notify the duty coordinator that evening. Community Nurse: Got it. I'll return and record the set before leaving today.

Question 3

You hear a team leader reviewing an arrangement intended to reduce interruptions during clinical handover.

How does the team leader assess the trial arrangement?

A) It prevented staff from responding promptly to urgent concerns.

B) It changed where interruptions occurred without adequately reducing them.

C) It improved privacy enough to justify keeping the same location.

Show answer

Answer: B) It changed where interruptions occurred without adequately reducing them.

Show transcript

The trial of holding handover in the small meeting room did give the outgoing team some welcome distance from the main desk. However, because the room was beside the treatment area, staff still came in with non-urgent queries. More importantly, the nurse receiving handover was repeatedly called out to check messages at the desk. So, although the room itself was quieter, we had effectively moved the interruptions rather than reduced them. I do not think the idea should be abandoned, as colleagues said the more private setting helped them discuss sensitive details. From Monday, we will use the conference room at the end of the corridor and nominate one nurse outside handover to deal with routine enquiries. Urgent concerns can still be brought in, but everything else should wait until the team returns.

Question 4

You hear two rehabilitation staff discussing delays between therapy sessions.

What do the staff agree to do to reduce delays?

A) reduce the length of each patient appointment

B) simplify the cleaning routine between sessions

C) reset the room while clinical notes are completed elsewhere

Show answer

Answer: C) reset the room while clinical notes are completed elsewhere

Show transcript

Physiotherapist: We ran late again this morning. I need the full forty-five minutes with each patient, but writing notes and resetting the room afterwards is pushing the next session back. Therapy Assistant: Could we book forty-minute appointments for now? Physiotherapist: I'd rather not. Several patients need time to practise transfers safely. And we certainly can't shorten the cleaning routine between patients. Therapy Assistant: What if I prepare the standard equipment trolley before the first session, then reset the room as soon as each patient leaves? You could use the workstation outside to finish your notes at the same time. Physiotherapist: That should save enough time without affecting treatment. Let's try it tomorrow, and I'll tell reception to keep the current appointment length. Therapy Assistant: Fine. I'll also note which items need replacing so the trolley is ready throughout the day.

Question 5

You hear a porter and a clinic nurse discussing transport for patients returning to the wards.

Why has the patient collection window been shortened?

A) to manage a reduction in the number of porters

B) to return patients before the wards begin their drug rounds

C) to prevent uncertain timing from causing missed collections

Show answer

Answer: C) to prevent uncertain timing from causing missed collections

Show transcript

Porter: Just a reminder that from today, we'll collect patients returning to the wards between three ten and three twenty-five, rather than at any point during the whole half hour. Clinic Nurse: Is that because there are fewer porters available? Porter: No, staffing hasn't changed. With the wider window, patients were often prepared too early, then left waiting while we were redirected to urgent jobs. Sometimes, when we returned, the clinic had moved them elsewhere and the collection was missed. Clinic Nurse: I see. We need everyone back before the ward drug rounds begin at four. Porter: Exactly. If you have the patients ready at three ten and tell us immediately about any delay, we can collect the group together and still meet that deadline.

Question 6

You hear two staff members discussing the loan of a walking aid between departments.

Who is responsible for making the initial entry in the loan register?

A) the staff member collecting the equipment

B) the staff member lending the equipment

C) the equipment coordinator at the end of the day

Show answer

Answer: A) the staff member collecting the equipment

Show transcript

Therapy Assistant: The respiratory team have asked to borrow our wheeled walking frame until tomorrow. I've put their department on the label, so I assume you update the loan register before they take it. Equipment Assistant: Actually, I thought the person lending it out recorded the transfer. Therapy Assistant: That used to be the arrangement, but it caused gaps when equipment was collected while we were treating patients. Under the revised process, whoever comes from the receiving department must enter the frame's asset number, destination and expected return time when they collect it. We only sign it back in once it is returned. The equipment coordinator checks outstanding items at the end of the day, but doesn't create the initial entry. Equipment Assistant: Thanks for correcting me. I'll make sure the respiratory staff member completes it.

Question 7

You hear a rehabilitation worker reporting a problem with a piece of patient-transfer equipment.

What should the rehabilitation worker do first?

A) label the board and place it in the quarantine area

B) complete a fault form and request an inspection

C) collect the spare board from the therapy gym

Show answer

Answer: A) label the board and place it in the quarantine area

Show transcript

Rehabilitation worker: Maya, I've found a crack along the edge of the long transfer board from Bay Three. It didn't give way during the patient's transfer, but the surface flexed when I lifted it. I've left it beside the equipment cupboard for now. Supervisor: Thanks for telling me. Please take it out of circulation immediately. Attach one of the red do-not-use tags and put it in the locked quarantine area, not back in the cupboard. That will prevent anyone picking it up for another patient. Rehabilitation worker: Should I submit a repair request as well? Supervisor: Yes, record the asset number on the fault form once it's secured. I'll arrange an inspection. In the meantime, you can collect the spare board from the therapy gym for this afternoon's sessions.

Question 8

You hear two clinic coordinators discussing a last-minute room change.

What do the coordinators agree to do?

A) keep patients in reception until Room Eight becomes available

B) direct arriving patients to Room Six

C) ask patients to wait outside Room Four for an escort

Show answer

Answer: B) direct arriving patients to Room Six

Show transcript

Coordinator 1: Have you seen Room Four? The pipe under the sink has gone, so Facilities have closed it for the morning. Dr Malik's first patient is due in five minutes. Coordinator 2: Could we hold everyone in main reception until Room Eight is free? Physio should finish there at eleven. Coordinator 1: That would put the clinic badly behind. Room Six is empty now. Its door still says respiratory clinic, but I can cover that with a temporary notice. Can you ask reception to send Dr Malik's patients straight there? Coordinator 2: Yes. I'll update the room list and tell the volunteers. If anyone has already gone to Room Four, I'll bring them across.

Question 9

You hear a ward assistant briefing colleagues about a delay to patients' meals.

What should staff do immediately?

A) keep the desserts and water refrigerated

B) telephone catering about the delay

C) open the meal trolley before serving begins

Show answer

Answer: A) keep the desserts and water refrigerated

Show transcript

Just a quick update about the lunch delivery. The service lift has stopped working, so catering staff are bringing the meal trolleys up in the larger visitor lift. That means lunch may reach us about twenty minutes late. While we're waiting, please leave the patients' water and desserts in the ward fridge. Don't put them on the bedside tables yet, as some rooms are quite warm and we need to keep the food at a safe temperature. When the trolley arrives, keep its heated doors closed until you are ready to serve each room. Catering will record the delay, so you don't need to contact them separately. I'll let everyone know as soon as the trolley reaches our floor.

Question 10

You hear a manager discussing a cross-team desk-sharing trial at a community health centre.

What conclusion has the manager reached about the desk-sharing trial?

A) It should be discontinued because the confidentiality risks outweigh the benefits.

B) It is ready to become the standard arrangement for all staff.

C) Its wider use should depend on resolving the practical concerns identified.

Show answer

Answer: C) Its wider use should depend on resolving the practical concerns identified.

Show transcript

The six-week desk-sharing trial has certainly made it easier for the nursing and therapy teams to resolve routine queries. Staff who previously exchanged several emails can now clarify things immediately, and that has helped with coordinating patient visits. However, the arrangement has exposed two issues we cannot overlook. Telephone conversations can be overheard too easily, particularly when staff are discussing sensitive cases, and people have nowhere secure to keep reference folders between shifts. Some colleagues have suggested abandoning the trial, while others want to make every desk shared permanently. I don't think either response is justified yet. The benefits are genuine, but we need lockable storage and designated spaces for confidential calls before deciding whether the model should continue on a larger scale.

Question 11

You hear a reception supervisor briefing hospital volunteers about a temporary lift closure.

What is the supervisor's main instruction to the volunteers?

A) help visitors who need step-free access find the public lift

B) encourage visitors to use the stairs whenever possible

C) allow visitors to use the staff lift without assistance

Show answer

Answer: A) help visitors who need step-free access find the public lift

Show transcript

The visitor lift beside the main entrance will be out of service until four o'clock today. Please don't simply direct visitors to the stairs, as some may have difficulty walking or may be pushing a pram. Instead, ask whether they need step-free access. If they do, show them to the public lift near the pharmacy. It's a little harder to find, so please walk with them as far as the blue corridor sign rather than just pointing. The staff lift is still working, but visitors shouldn't use it unless a staff member is accompanying them. Facilities have put up notices, but we expect some people to miss them, especially when reception gets busy.

Question 12

You hear two staff members discussing the charging of shared clinical devices.

What do the speakers agree about responsibility for checking the devices?

A) The early-shift nurse will check battery levels each morning.

B) The technician will check every device during the midday round.

C) Late-shift staff will take sole responsibility for charging devices.

Show answer

Answer: A) The early-shift nurse will check battery levels each morning.

Show transcript

Nurse: Three portable observation monitors and two infusion pumps were returned to the cupboard with nearly flat batteries this morning. I've charged them, but we need to prevent this happening again. Technician: I can check all the devices when I do my midday equipment round. Nurse: Midday may be too late for morning admissions. Since I'm already opening the treatment rooms, I'll check the battery displays at the start of each early shift and plug in anything that's low. Technician: Fine. I'll continue with the weekly condition checks and replace any faulty leads. Late-shift staff should still connect each device after use. Nurse: Agreed. I'll add the battery check to the early-shift roster and report any batteries that don't hold their charge. Technician: Great. That gives us one named check without letting everyone else off the hook.

Question 13

You hear two coordinators discussing how to allocate a printer toner cartridge.

What do the coordinators decide to do with the toner cartridge?

A) keep it available for whichever printer fails first

B) use it for printing outpatient appointment slips

C) allocate it to Records so documents meet the courier deadline

Show answer

Answer: C) allocate it to Records so documents meet the courier deadline

Show transcript

Clinic Coordinator: We've only got one toner cartridge left until supplies arrive tomorrow afternoon. The outpatient desk has asked for it because their printer is producing faint appointment slips. Records Coordinator: Ours has stopped completely, and we need to print the discharge summaries before the courier collects them at four. Could outpatients use the printer beside reception? Clinic Coordinator: They could, although staff would have to walk over with each batch. I was going to give them the cartridge because patients are waiting for paperwork. Records Coordinator: Their documents can still be read, though. If the summaries miss today's courier, they won't reach the community teams until the following morning. Clinic Coordinator: Good point. Let's install it in Records. I'll tell the outpatient desk to use reception's printer for the rest of today.

Question 14

You hear a facilities message about temporary arrangements while a staff shower is repaired.

What should staff who need to shower during the repairs do?

A) obtain a temporary access pass from reception

B) allow additional time to use another building

C) wait until Friday afternoon before using a shower

Show answer

Answer: B) allow additional time to use another building

Show transcript

This is a message for staff using the ground-floor changing area. The shower beside the bicycle entrance has developed a leak, so contractors will close that shower and the two changing cubicles next to it from Wednesday morning. The rest of the changing area will remain open, including the toilets and storage benches. During the repairs, staff who need to shower should use the facilities on the second floor of the education building. Your existing access card will open that area, so there is no need to collect a temporary pass from reception. Please allow extra time before your shift, as the alternative facilities are a few minutes' walk away. The work should finish by Friday afternoon, and we will send an update if the closure needs to continue.

Question 15

You hear a security clerk briefing staff about replacement name badges.

What should staff normally do while waiting for a replacement name badge?

A) collect a temporary pass from the security desk

B) ask their line manager to provide identification

C) continue using the damaged badge until the new one arrives

Show answer

Answer: A) collect a temporary pass from the security desk

Show transcript

If your name badge has cracked or become unreadable, please bring it to the security desk before your next shift. We have sent the replacement requests to the printer, but the new badges will take about five working days to arrive. In the meantime, collect a numbered temporary pass from us and wear it where patients and colleagues can see it. Please return the pass at the end of each shift, as another staff member may need it the following day. You do not need to ask your line manager to arrange one. The only exception is for night staff arriving after the security desk closes. They should collect a temporary pass from the duty manager instead. Do not continue wearing a damaged badge while you wait for the replacement.

Question 16

You hear a department administrator giving staff instructions about a refrigerator cleanout.

What will happen to food that is not correctly labelled by the deadline?

A) Staff will be asked to remove it themselves.

B) The cleaning team will throw it away.

C) It will be transferred to a separate refrigerator.

Show answer

Answer: B) The cleaning team will throw it away.

Show transcript

A quick reminder about the staff refrigerator cleanout scheduled for Friday morning. Please label anything you want to keep with your name and Friday's date by four o'clock on Thursday. Labels from earlier in the week will not be accepted, even if the food still looks fresh. After the deadline, the cleaning team will dispose of all unlabelled or incorrectly dated items, including unopened containers, so please check the fridge before you leave. You do not need to empty the refrigerator yourself, and shelves will remain available until Thursday afternoon. This notice applies only to staff food. Patient snacks and clinical products are stored in separate designated refrigerators and must not be moved. New labels and a marker pen are beside the staff refrigerator.

Question 17

You hear a switchboard supervisor briefing clinic teams about a temporary change to telephone extensions.

What should the affected clinic teams do before leaving today?

A) redirect their usual extension to the temporary reception number

B) give patients a mobile number for urgent enquiries

C) ask switchboard to change the radiology extension

Show answer

Answer: A) redirect their usual extension to the temporary reception number

Show transcript

Just a reminder that the telephone upgrade starts at six this evening and continues until midday tomorrow. During that period, calls to the physiotherapy and diabetes clinic extensions may not connect directly. Before leaving today, each team should forward its usual extension to the temporary reception number, 4820. Reception will take the caller's details and send an urgent message to the appropriate team. Please don't give patients staff mobile numbers, as we need all enquiries logged centrally. The radiology extension is on a separate system, so it will work as normal and requires no changes. Tomorrow morning, test your extension when you arrive. If forwarding has failed, contact switchboard rather than trying to alter the telephone settings yourself. We'll let everyone know as soon as direct calling is restored.

Question 18

You hear an administrator explaining a change to office recycling points.

Why are the recycling bins being moved?

A) Staff have been sorting recyclable items incorrectly.

B) The bins are restricting movement along treatment corridors.

C) The number of recycling collection points is being reduced.

Show answer

Answer: B) The bins are restricting movement along treatment corridors.

Show transcript

From Monday, the paper and packaging recycling bins outside the treatment rooms will move to the staff office near reception. The bins are not being removed, and the change is not because staff have used them incorrectly. We need to keep the treatment corridors clear, especially at busy times when patients, wheelchairs and equipment are passing through. The bins have sometimes narrowed the space beside the doors, so moving them will make the route easier and safer for everyone. Please continue separating office paper and clean packaging as usual. If the new point becomes too full between collections, tell reception rather than leaving bags beside it. We will review the arrangement after two weeks and add another office collection point if needed.

Question 19

You hear a facilities officer briefing reception staff about access to a waiting area.

What is the main purpose of the briefing?

A) to explain why the painting work will continue until late afternoon

B) to arrange extra help for patients who have difficulty walking

C) to clarify how visitors should reach the waiting area

Show answer

Answer: C) to clarify how visitors should reach the waiting area

Show transcript

Good morning. Before the clinic opens, I need to explain today's signs for the main waiting area. Painters are working in the corridor beside reception, so visitors must not use the usual doorway. Please point them towards the blue sign near the pharmacy, then ask them to turn left and follow the arrows through the side corridor. This route brings them into the same waiting area by the rear door. The painters are using low-odour paint, but the corridor still needs to remain empty until four o'clock. Patients do not need to check in again when they reach the waiting area. If anyone has difficulty walking, call the porter rather than taking them through the closed section. We'll remove the temporary signs after the paint has dried.

Question 20

You hear a catering manager making an announcement to staff in a hospital canteen.

What are staff instructed to do during the label replacement period?

A) ask serving staff to recall the ingredients

B) check the blue folder beside the main till

C) read the daily menu on the website

Show answer

Answer: B) check the blue folder beside the main till

Show transcript

Good afternoon. We are replacing the allergen labels beside all the dishes in the staff canteen. The work will take three days, starting today. During this time, please do not rely on the daily menu on our website, as it only lists the names of the meals. Instead, you can find full ingredient and allergen information in the blue folder next to the main till. It will be updated before lunch each day. The serving staff can help you find the correct page, but they may not know every ingredient from memory. If the folder is missing, please ask the catering supervisor to replace it. The new labels should be ready by Friday morning.

Question 21

You hear a clinic receptionist calling a laboratory about a delayed sample collection.

What should clinic staff do next?

A) store the samples appropriately and document the delayed collection

B) request an urgent collection for the remaining samples

C) arrange for a staff member to deliver the samples

Show answer

Answer: A) store the samples appropriately and document the delayed collection

Show transcript

Receptionist: Hello, this is Mara at Greystone Community Clinic. Our routine blood samples are still in the collection fridge, and we close in forty minutes. The courier was due at four. Our urgent samples went separately at lunchtime, but what should I do with these? Laboratory Coordinator: Thanks for calling. The van had a mechanical problem, but dispatch has redirected another driver. Please don't arrange a taxi or send a staff member to the laboratory. Receptionist: All right. Do you know when the replacement driver will arrive? I need to brief the closing team. Laboratory Coordinator: By half past five, most likely. Keep the samples in the monitored collection fridge and enter the delayed pickup in the transport log. The evening supervisor has access to the clinic, so the driver can collect after reception closes. If the fridge alarm activates, ring us again immediately. Receptionist: Understood. I'll update the log and tell the supervisor.

Question 22

You hear a supply lead briefing ward managers about a weekend stock pilot.

What does the supply lead recommend?

A) return all wards to their previous weekend stock levels

B) increase selected supplies for the ward experiencing shortages

C) formalise borrowing arrangements between neighbouring wards

Show answer

Answer: B) increase selected supplies for the ward experiencing shortages

Show transcript

The lower weekend stock levels have largely achieved what we wanted. We are throwing away fewer unopened dressings and syringes after overstocked cupboards are cleared, and most wards reported no difficulty. However, Cedar Ward ran short of cannula dressings on the last two Sunday mornings. Staff obtained some from neighbouring areas, so patient care was not delayed, but borrowing stock is hardly a reliable system. I do not think that justifies abandoning the pilot or restoring every item to its previous level. Instead, we should raise Cedar's allocation for the few products it regularly uses more quickly, while keeping the reduced levels elsewhere. We will review usage again in four weeks, particularly after busy Saturday admissions, before deciding whether any broader adjustment is needed.

Question 23

You hear a clinic manager briefing staff about a shortage of patient information leaflets.

What are staff instructed to do during the leaflet shortage?

A) amend photocopies of the previous leaflet

B) distribute the remaining copies held at reception

C) provide the approved digital version in a suitable format

Show answer

Answer: C) provide the approved digital version in a suitable format

Show transcript

We have run out of the printed leaflets on preparing for minor procedures, and the replacement batch will not arrive until next Thursday because it includes the revised fasting guidance. Please do not photocopy the old version, even if you cross out the outdated section. Until the new stock arrives, use the approved PDF in the patient resources folder. You can email it securely or print a copy for anyone who prefers paper. Before sending it, check whether the patient needs large print or another accessible format, as those versions are stored in the same folder. Reception has a few old leaflets left, but these must be removed today rather than handed out.

Question 24

You hear a ward supervisor briefing staff about a shortage of clean linen.

What does the supervisor want staff to do?

A) obtain extra linen from other wards

B) give necessary bed changes priority over routine ones

C) replace sheets with spare blankets where possible

Show answer

Answer: B) give necessary bed changes priority over routine ones

Show transcript

The laundry delivery has been delayed until about three this afternoon, so please use our remaining linen carefully. We have enough sheets for planned bed changes, but not for changing every occupied bed this morning. Prioritise patients whose bedding is wet or visibly soiled, and anyone requiring a change for clinical reasons. For other patients, check the bedding and postpone a routine change if it is still clean and comfortable. Please don't borrow supplies from neighbouring wards because they are also working with reduced stock. There are a few spare blankets in the treatment room, but keep those for patients who are cold rather than using them routinely. I'll let everyone know as soon as the delivery reaches the ward.

Question 25

You hear a supervisor briefing patient transport staff about wheelchair cleaning records.

What procedure is the supervisor correcting?

A) checking stored wheelchairs only when a shift finishes

B) recording each wheelchair clean immediately after it is completed

C) moving cleaned wheelchairs directly into the storage bay

Show answer

Answer: B) recording each wheelchair clean immediately after it is completed

Show transcript

Just a quick clarification about the wheelchair cleaning log. Yesterday, several chairs were cleaned promptly after patients had used them, but the details were all entered together at the end of the late shift. That makes it difficult for the next person collecting a chair to know whether it is ready. From today, once you have cleaned a wheelchair, record it immediately on the sheet attached to the storage bay. Include the chair number, the time and your initials. The end-of-shift check will continue, but it is only there to identify any missing entries. It does not replace recording each clean when it happens. This should give staff confidence that a chair marked as available is safe to use straight away.

Question 26

You hear a senior clinician discussing staff feedback on a new handover template.

What is the senior clinician's view of the new handover template?

A) Its safety benefits justify using the full version for every patient.

B) Its repetition makes it unsuitable for communication between wards.

C) Its thoroughness is valuable, but its length should vary with case complexity.

Show answer

Answer: C) Its thoroughness is valuable, but its length should vary with case complexity.

Show transcript

The feedback on the new handover template has been broadly positive, particularly from staff receiving patients from other wards. Important details, such as mobility restrictions and pending test results, are now much less likely to be omitted. That said, several teams feel the form is too elaborate for patients whose care is straightforward. I can understand the frustration: routine handovers are taking several minutes longer, and some sections invite staff to repeat information already recorded elsewhere. I don't think we should abandon the template, because the improvement in completeness is significant. However, treating every section as equally necessary defeats the purpose of making communication safer and clearer. My suggestion is to retain the full version for complex transfers while developing a shorter pathway for uncomplicated cases.

Question 27

You hear two educators discussing arrangements for a staff training session.

What do the educators decide to do?

A) hold the theory session today and reschedule the practical work

B) move the complete session to the rehabilitation gym

C) cancel today's programme and arrange a replacement session

Show answer

Answer: A) hold the theory session today and reschedule the practical work

Show transcript

Educator 1: The training room has also been allocated to the infection-control workshop this afternoon. We could move our whole session to the seminar room, but there isn't enough space there to practise with the hoists safely. Educator 2: What about using the rehabilitation gym? Educator 1: It's large enough, although patients will still be attending until three, and I don't want us setting up equipment around them. Cancelling everything would be frustrating for staff who've changed shifts to attend. Educator 2: Could we deliver the theory in the seminar room as planned, then arrange another date for the hands-on section? Educator 1: Yes, that preserves most of today's programme. It isn't ideal because participants will need a second visit, but it's safer than rushing the practical work or squeezing it into an unsuitable space. I'll notify everyone now.

Question 28

You hear a facilities liaison briefing staff about a planned water shutdown at a clinic.

What should staff do because of the water shutdown?

A) cancel all appointments in the east wing

B) relocate procedures that require handwashing

C) use alcohol hand rub instead of soap and water

Show answer

Answer: B) relocate procedures that require handwashing

Show transcript

Tomorrow, the water supply to the east wing will be turned off from 10 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. while a valve is replaced. Toilets in that wing will be closed, but those beside reception will remain available. More importantly, any activity requiring handwashing must move to the west wing during that period. This includes wound dressing appointments and the morning phlebotomy clinic. Please do not rely on alcohol hand rub where soap and water are clinically required. Reception has already contacted affected patients, so staff should check the revised room list rather than cancel appointments. Drinking water will be placed in both waiting areas. Once the supply returns, facilities staff will flush and check each outlet before confirming that rooms can reopen.

Question 29

You hear a therapy assistant speaking to a rehabilitation supervisor about a wheelchair.

What is the main purpose of the supervisor's response?

A) to suggest postponing the patient's assessment

B) to explain how the missing footrest will be traced

C) to set out the correct procedure for using a replacement

Show answer

Answer: C) to set out the correct procedure for using a replacement

Show transcript

Therapy Assistant: The detachable left footrest from wheelchair twelve isn't in the equipment bay. I've checked the treatment rooms and asked the ward staff, but nobody has seen it. Mr Bennett needs that chair for his assessment this afternoon. Should I borrow a footrest from another wheelchair? Rehabilitation Supervisor: Yes, but don't just take one and leave the other chair incomplete. Use the spare set from the loan cupboard, make sure it locks securely onto wheelchair twelve, and enter the loan in the equipment register. Put a label on the chair showing that the footrest is temporary. Therapy Assistant: And if the original turns up? Rehabilitation Supervisor: Return the spare set to the cupboard and close the register entry. I'll ask stores to trace the missing one.

Question 30

You hear a service lead addressing staff about a change to the daily multidisciplinary huddle.

Why does the service lead support moving the huddle to an earlier time?

A) It allows joint decisions before staff schedules take them in different directions.

B) It encourages community staff to attend the meeting in person.

C) It provides additional time for discussing complex discharge cases.

Show answer

Answer: A) It allows joint decisions before staff schedules take them in different directions.

Show transcript

I recognise that bringing the huddle forward to eight fifteen is inconvenient for community colleagues, particularly those finishing early home visits. However, at nine o'clock the ward teams begin their rounds and the therapists' schedules split across several sites. By then, decisions about discharge support are often delayed simply because the right people are no longer together. An earlier huddle gives us a brief window to resolve those issues before everyone's priorities diverge. I'm not suggesting community staff should abandon visits or travel in solely for the meeting. They can join remotely, and each team can nominate one representative when necessary. The huddle will remain ten minutes, so this is not an attempt to extend discussion. We'll review attendance and delayed discharge figures after four weeks, but the timing change is worth testing.
