よくある質問
Below are some frequently asked questions from students. If you have any related questions that are not answered here, please feel free to contact us.

More than 2,500 educational institutions in the United States use the Duolingo English Test, and you can see a complete list of educational institutions in the United States that use the Duolingo English Test on our blog! Is it accepted in all US states?
Accepted by universities in every state! Here are the US states that most accept Duolingo English Test results:
- California
- New York
- Massachusetts
- Texas
- Pennsylvania
- Ohio
- Illinois
- Florida
- Michigan
- Arizona
The above is just a list of states where many schools accept the Duolingo English Test . Even if the school you want to attend is not in one of these states, it doesn't mean that the Duolingo English Test is not accepted!
Does my university accept the Duolingo English Test?
There are three ways to find out if your school accepts the Duolingo English Test:
- Search for the university name on the Duolingo English Test official website
- Check the language requirements on the admissions page of your desired university
- Contact the university admissions office directly to see if they accept the Duolingo English Test as part of their language requirements.
Does the Duolingo English Test cost vary depending on the country I'm taking the test in?
The cost of taking the Duolingo English Test is the same regardless of your country.
Can I use Duolingo for my UK Visa application?
Unfortunately no. There are only four "Qualified English Language Tests (SELTs)" accepted for UK entry visas. Unfortunately, the Duolingo English Test (DET) is not one of them yet.
The main reason is that the UK government does not recognize DET as "safe" because it can be taken at home. However, after the large-scale cheating scandal in IELTS was discovered , it is likely that the UK government will eventually approve DET. We hope for early approval!
Can I use it for a German visa application?
There are three types of student visa for Germany:
- Language course visa : for German course enrolments of 3 months to 1 year
- 学生申請ビザ:まだ適切なプログラムを見つけていない、または正式な入学許可を得ていない学生向け
- 学生ビザ:すでにドイツの教育機関から入学許可を得ている学生向け
For visas that require "proof" of university entry, you will need to meet the requirements of each institution and may be asked for proof of English proficiency. It's important to check this as classes are taught in German at many schools in Germany!
If your classes are fully or partly in English, you should check if your university accepts the Duolingo English Test and what the minimum score requirements are (usually 105-120 points). If your classes are fully or partly in German, you will need the German Proficiency Test instead! Especially since COVID-19, more and more German schools are accepting the Duolingo English Test, which students can take from anywhere.
However, visa requirements require you to prove German proficiency for German or mixed courses, or English proficiency for English or mixed courses. Unfortunately, the TOEFL or IELTS is required to prove English proficiency for visa applications, not the Duolingo English Test . For TOEFL, you need a score of 550 for the paper-based test, 213 for the computer-based test, 79-89 for the internet-based test, or 5-6.5 for the IELTS.
