University of New Haven Duolingo Requirements

The good news is that the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut is one of the 2,520 USA universities that accept the Duolingo English Test.

Undergraduate Students

A Duolingo English Test score of 105+ is required for non-native English-speaking applicants applying for undergraduate study at the University of New Haven.

Alternatively, students can:

  • Score a 6.0 on the IELTS
  • Score a 75 on the TOEFL
  • Score a 450 on the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing Score on the SAT
  • Score a 53 on the Pearson Test of English
  • Get an AEPP Certificate of Completion of Advanced Level 4, English for Academic Purposes

Further, students who score below 100 on the Duolingo English Test (or other language proficiency tests) may be granted a 'Conditional Acceptance' from the University of New Haven. This means that once you meet the English language requirements, you can enroll and begin your classes.

Students can also enroll in the University of New Haven Academic English Preparatory Program to study English as a second language at the school before starting academic classes. This can fulfill the English Language Requirement.

The process and requirements are different for graduate applicants.

Students applying for a graduate degree program in the Tagliatela College of Engineering must meet one of the following  scores:

  • Duolingo: 105

Students applying for a graduate degree program in the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Henry C. Lee College or  Pompea College of Business must meet one of the following minimum scores:

  • TOEFL: 80
  • IELTS: 6.5
  • PTE: 53
  • Duolingo: 105

Students applying for a doctorate or Ph.D. program must meet one of the following minimum scores:

  • TOEFL: 100
  • IELTS: 7.5
  • PTE: 68
  • Duolingo: 125

As with undergraduate applicants, prospective students can complete the University of New Haven’s Academic English Preparatory Program and submit their AEPP Certificate of Completion of Advanced Level 4, English for Academic Purposes (EAP) instead of the TOEFL, IELTS, or PTE.

As with undergraduate requirements, the University of New Haven offers Conditional Admission to students who do not meet the English Language Requirements. Please note, however, that Doctorate and Ph.D. programs do not offer this, neither do students applying for the MA in Industrial/Organizational Psychology.
