Can I get a refund for the Duolingo English Test?
Yes. In certain circumstances, Duolingo does give refunds for the Duolingo English Test.
When can you get a refund for the Duolingo English Test (DET)?
In the Terms & Conditions of the DET, Duolingo specifies when you can get a refund.
- If there was a technical failure in the test
- You do not receive your DET results within a commercially reasonable period of time after the test is completed
Duolingo does not specify what they mean by "commercially reasonable period of time." However, they promise to share your results with you within 48 hours. If it takes longer than that, you may qualify for a refund.
Relatedly, if you purchase the "Faster Results" upgrade, which allows you to get your results within just 12 hours, but it takes longer than that, you may also qualify for a refund.
You must request a refund within 24 hours of the issue occurring. However, even if you submit your claim on time, there is no guarantee that you will get the refund. Duolingo says clearly that they decide if they will issue a refund or not in all cases.

When can you NOT get a refund for the Duolingo English Test (DET)?
Here are cases where you will not quality for a refund:
- If your test results were not certified
- If Duolingo determined that you were cheating and they ban you
- If you do not get the scores that you need
- If you purchase a test credit but don't use it within 21 days
