Matching PTE score
63 to 70
This table shows how TOEFL iBT scores match PTE Academic scores when linked through IELTS. Both TOEFL scales are shown. The middle IELTS column shows the link between the two.
| TOEFL iBT (0 to 120) | TOEFL iBT (1 to 6) | IELTS (middle) | PTE Academic |
|---|---|---|---|
| 120 | 6 | 9.0 | 90 |
| 115 to 119 | 6 | 8.5 | 86 to 89 |
| 108 to 114 | 5.5 to 6 | 8.0 | 79 to 85 |
| 100 to 107 | 5 to 5.5 | 7.5 | 71 to 78 |
| 91 to 99 | 4.5 to 5 | 7.0 | 63 to 70 |
| 81 to 90 | 4 to 4.5 | 6.5 | 55 to 62 |
| 67 to 80 | 3.5 to 4 | 6.0 | 47 to 54 |
| 51 to 66 | 3 to 3.5 | 5.5 | 39 to 46 |
| 37 to 50 | 2.5 to 3 | 5.0 | 31 to 38 |
| 26 to 36 | 2 to 2.5 | 4.5 | 24 to 30 |
| 0 to 25 | 1 to 2 | Below 4.5 | 10 to 23 |
Each row shows a TOEFL score range on both scales, the IELTS band it matches, and the PTE score that matches that IELTS band. For example, TOEFL 100 falls in TOEFL 91 to 99 (or about 4.5 to 5 on the new scale), which matches IELTS 7.0, which matches PTE 63 to 70.
Because the chart uses IELTS as a middle step, the matching range is wider than a direct chart would be. Your real result on the other test could fall outside the matching range by a few points.
Pearson's last direct TOEFL to PTE chart is from 2017 and uses CEFR bands rather than per-point scores. Pearson has publicly committed to publishing an updated direct TOEFL to PTE study. In the meantime, this tool links the two tests through IELTS using two current 2025 studies:
The chained chart should be replaced when Pearson publishes a direct TOEFL to PTE concordance study.
