Can I use headphones on the Duolingo English Test (DET)?

No. You cannot use headphones or earbuds on the Duolingo English Test (DET).

In the official rules, Duolingo explains that if you use either of these, your results won't be certified and you will have to retake the test.

Can I use an external microphone?

Many test takers want to use a microphone on headphones or earbuds because the microphone on their laptop or computer isn't good. Unfortunately, you're not allowed to do this. However, you can use an external microphone, but these are not common.

If you think that the microphone on your laptop or computer isn't good, then you should take the test on a device with a better one. This is such an easy way to raise your score.
