Frequently asked questions
How the directory works, where the data comes from, and how to read the requirements on each card.
How to read this directoryHow do we verify test requirements?
We start from the official accepting-institution directories published by each test maker, then read each university's own admissions pages to confirm requirements and capture exact minimum scores. The "Verified" date on each card shows when we last checked. Here is what each value in the requirements table means:

Which English tests do universities accept?
Most universities accept several English proficiency tests. TOEFL iBT and IELTS Academic are the most widely recognized, PTE Academic is accepted by thousands of institutions, and the Duolingo English Test (DET) has grown to acceptance at over 5,000 universities. Use the filters above to see exactly which tests each institution accepts.
How do I find universities that accept the Duolingo English Test?
Select the "DET" filter above to see every university that officially accepts Duolingo English Test scores, and combine it with a country or program-type filter to narrow the list to institutions that fit your plans.
Can a university accept more than one English test?
Yes, most do. Hundreds of universities in this directory accept all four major tests (DET, PTE Academic, TOEFL iBT, and IELTS Academic). Selecting multiple test filters shows only institutions that accept every test you selected, which is useful if you haven't decided which test to take yet.
Where does this acceptance data come from?
The directory is built from the official accepting-institution lists published by each test maker (Duolingo, Pearson, ETS, IELTS, and Cambridge English), then enriched by reading each university's own admissions pages to verify acceptance and capture exact score requirements. Both sources are refreshed regularly, and each card shows the date we last verified it. By default the directory shows degree-granting universities with undergraduate or graduate programs.
Do universities accept Cambridge English qualifications?
Yes, thousands of institutions recognize Cambridge English Qualifications such as B2 First, C1 Advanced, and C2 Proficiency. The Cambridge filter shows organisations listed in Cambridge's official recognition database; check the institution's admissions page to confirm which specific Cambridge exam and grade it requires.
What English test score do I need for admission?
Minimum scores vary by university and program level; graduate programs usually require higher scores than undergraduate ones, and some programs, like nursing, medicine, and teaching, set their own higher bars. Where we've verified them, minimum and recommended scores appear directly on each university card, split by undergraduate and graduate. Always confirm on the university's admissions page for the current cycle, and use Arno's free score converter to compare scores across DET, TOEFL, IELTS, and PTE.
Acceptance data is compiled from the official directories published by each test maker, verified against university admissions pages where shown, and refreshed regularly. Admission requirements change between cycles. Always verify with the institution before applying.
