Except for Interactive Speaking, all writing and speaking questions on the DET are not adaptive. All other questions are adaptive.

What does "adaptive" mean?

As Duolingo explains in the official guide to the test, the DET is adaptive because the difficulty of questions adapts to you. If you get a question correct, the next question will be more difficult. If you get a question wrong, the next question will be easier. This allows Duolingo to select questions at your level. That way, you don't waste time answering questions that are too difficult or too easy for you.
